Ghana Records 300% Jump in Foreign Investment Inflows

Ghana has recorded a dramatic surge in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), with inflows reaching US$2.61 billion in 2025 according to provisional figures released by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC). The figure represents a significant increase from the US$652 million recorded in 2024.

Simon Madjie, Chief Executive of GIPC, announced the figures during a Board retreat focused on reviewing investment strategies for the year. The investment surge reflects renewed confidence in Ghana's economic recovery following improvements in key macroeconomic indicators.

Key Stat: Ghana's FDI increased by 300% from 2024 to 2025, jumping from $652 million to $2.61 billion

Economic Recovery Drives Investor Confidence

Madjie attributed the investment boom to significant improvements in Ghana's economic fundamentals. The country has seen positive developments in inflation rates, interest rates, and exchange rate stability, creating a more attractive environment for international investors.

"The situation also gives a positive signal that investors are receiving the call that Ghana is opened for business as mentioned by President John Mahama," Madjie stated.

The GIPC Chief Executive emphasized that the strong performance indicates Ghana's successful positioning as an investment destination. President John Mahama's administration has actively promoted the country's business-friendly environment to international investors.

Free Zones Authority Leads Investment Drive

The Ghana Free Zones Authority emerged as a major driver of the investment surge, recording US$1.437 billion from 180 projects. This represents the highest value of new projects registered by the authority during the period under review.

The total FDI figure encompasses 253 new projects verified across multiple government platforms. These include investments registered through GIPC, the Petroleum Commission, and the Ghana Free Zones Authority, demonstrating broad-based investor interest across sectors.

Investment Breakdown by Source Countries

China maintained its position as the leading source of investment projects by number, followed by India. However, the Cayman Islands topped the FDI value rankings, with China securing second place in terms of total investment value.

GIPC registered 180 new investment projects during the period, while the Petroleum Commission recorded contributions from 18 existing upstream companies that injected additional investments into their operations.

Diverse Sectors Attract International Investment

The investment inflows span multiple sectors, indicating diversified investor interest beyond traditional industries. Madjie highlighted emerging opportunities in technology and artificial intelligence, alongside continued interest in oil and gas operations.

"We have heard the Jubilee Partners in the oil and gas sector. We have heard of the AI and digital space. So this is an indication that, yes, the country is opened," Madjie explained.

Manufacturing sector investments are also expected to increase in the coming months, according to GIPC projections. The investment pipeline includes commitments from companies announcing plans to invest over US$5 billion in Ghana over the next few years.

Future Investment Outlook

GIPC plans to release a comprehensive report on FDI inflows within the next two months, providing detailed analysis of investment trends and sectoral distribution. The authority expects continued momentum as Ghana's economic indicators remain stable.

The strong FDI performance positions Ghana favorably among African investment destinations and supports the government's economic recovery objectives. The diverse range of investment projects across technology, manufacturing, and energy sectors demonstrates the country's appeal to international investors seeking growth opportunities in West Africa.
