Shareholders of Mobile Money Fintech Limited (MMFL), the operator of MTN Mobile Money services, have approved a dividend payment of GH¢0.03 per share for the first quarter of 2026. The decision came during an Extraordinary General Meeting held in Accra where key corporate governance measures were also endorsed.
The meeting saw shareholders approve critical resolutions aimed at strengthening the company's operational framework and long-term growth strategy. MMFL manages Ghana's largest mobile money platform, serving more than 17 million registered subscribers across the country.
Corporate Governance Approvals
Board Chair Victoria Bright confirmed that shareholders granted critical approvals required for the company's continued operations following its transition to Mobile Money Fintech Limited. The meeting addressed the formal transfer of directors from the previous Mobile Money Limited structure.
"We invited our shareholders to give us certain critical approvals for the continuation of the business of MMF. You will note from the proceedings and the resolutions passed today that we approved the transitioning of our directors from Mobile Money Limited into Mobile Money Fintech Limited, as we are now called." - Victoria Bright, Board Chair
Shareholders also ratified the appointment of Ernst & Young (EY) as the company's external auditors. Bright explained that the board selected the global auditing firm and required shareholder approval for the choice.
Enhanced Dividend Structure
Chief Executive Officer Shaibu Haruna announced that MMFL has transitioned from semi-annual to quarterly dividend payments, reflecting improved company performance and a commitment to more frequent shareholder rewards. The new structure allows investors to receive returns four times per year instead of twice.
Bright revealed that shareholders will benefit from dividend declarations by both MMFL and MTN Ghana for the same period. MTN Ghana had previously declared dividends of three pesewas per share, meaning combined payments reach six pesewas per share for the first quarter.
Innovation and Security Focus
Haruna emphasized that MMFL remains committed to delivering shareholder value while investing in innovation and customer protection measures. The company plans to continue developing new solutions to enhance user experience within Ghana's digital payments ecosystem.
"The three pesewas per share that has been declared is a reflection of the company's performance in the first quarter. Our service is going to continue to be strong in terms of the innovation that we bring into the ecosystem." - Shaibu Haruna, CEO
The CEO also highlighted growing concerns about digital fraud and confirmed MMFL's commitment to working with industry partners to address security challenges. This focus on fraud prevention aligns with broader efforts across Africa's fintech sector to protect users and maintain trust in digital financial services.
The developments position MMFL to strengthen its market leadership in Ghana's mobile money space while addressing emerging security threats. As digital payment adoption continues growing across West Africa, investor confidence in established platforms like MTN Mobile Money remains strong, reflected in the company's ability to maintain regular dividend distributions.
