School of Thoughts Ghana has launched an ambitious skills empowerment programme in the Upper West Region, targeting students with artificial intelligence training and market-ready competencies to bridge the gap between traditional education and modern workforce demands.
The organisation's "Start Right" initiative brought together representatives from multiple universities and industry experts to address students from 12 participating secondary schools in the region. The programme focuses on equipping young people with digital, communication, and practical skills that complement their academic qualifications.
Expanding Educational Access Through Digital Skills
Founder Abraham Agoni revealed that the organisation, operational since 2019, has already reached more than 3,000 students across Northern Ghana through its human capacity development initiatives. The programme aims to improve education quality while creating opportunities for rural communities.
The event featured university representatives who detailed academic programmes and admission processes, followed by personalised guidance sessions for attendees. This approach helps demystify higher education pathways for students in underserved regions.
AI Skills Take Center Stage
Consultant and leadership coach Prophet Prakash Pyne addressed the critical importance of artificial intelligence skills during the programme. He emphasised that digital competencies transcend geographical limitations as global investments in AI continue expanding across Asia, America, and the Middle East.
"Artificial intelligence can beat even the most intelligent human being because it is a machine," Prophet Prakash Pyne explained to the assembled students.
Pyne challenged students to identify local market problems such as agricultural logistics and transportation issues that could be solved through technology, rather than waiting for traditional employment opportunities. This aligns with broader trends in AI technology adoption across African markets.
Bridging Academic and Market Skills
Actor and comedian Clemento Suarez participated in the programme during his first visit to Wa, using interactive demonstrations to highlight differences between academic achievements and market-ready abilities. He stressed that while traditional education systems reward memorisation, professional success demands practical skills.
The programme operated under the theme "Reskilling the Future," addressing realities of the modern economy and preparing students for an increasingly competitive global workforce.
Expansion Plans Across Ghana
School of Thoughts Ghana maintains operations from its Accra office and Walewale location, with plans to establish a new office in the Upper West Region. Agoni outlined ambitious expansion goals to reach all 16 regions of Ghana, calling for corporate partnerships and volunteer support.
The organisation seeks to extend critical mentorship and educational opportunities to rural communities nationwide. This expansion could significantly impact technology career development in underserved regions across Ghana.
The initiative represents a significant step toward democratising access to modern skills training in Ghana's rural areas, potentially creating new pathways for economic development through technology adoption and entrepreneurship.
