A South African-founded startup has officially entered the global AI infrastructure race. Supascale AI launched its cloud AI marketplace on 19 June 2026, positioning the platform as Africa's first of its kind — connecting businesses, developers, and creators to leading AI models at significantly reduced costs while enabling GPU owners to monetize idle computing power.
What the Platform Does
The Supascale AI marketplace operates as a distributed computing network, tapping into underutilized GPUs found in laptops, personal computers, and existing data centres. Rather than relying solely on traditional, energy-intensive AI data centres, the platform aggregates idle computing resources to serve AI workloads at lower costs.
This model also targets a critical environmental concern. Traditional AI data centres face growing scrutiny over high electricity consumption, heavy water usage for cooling systems, and noise pollution. The Founding Team
Aaron Bornmann, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Supascale AI, first developed the platform's core concept in 2025. A graduate of BEng Mechatronics Engineering from the University of Pretoria and a qualified Embedded AI Innovation Engineer, Bornmann has a proven track record in African tech entrepreneurship.
While still a university student, he founded 123tutors, a platform that went on to impact more than 10,000 students and tutors across South Africa. The company earned recognition as AfricArena's Most Innovative Startup in Africa in 2021. Bornmann also participated in the Grindstone Accelerator programme in 2022.

Bornmann subsequently brought in long-time friend Bongani Duma, who serves as Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, and cousin Clayton Bornmann, who holds the role of Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer. The trio brings combined expertise across engineering, cloud infrastructure, and international business growth.
International Experience Brought Back to Africa
Clayton Bornmann relocated from Canada to South Africa specifically to help scale the business. Before joining Supascale AI, he served as a Sales Manager at TELUS, one of Canada's largest telecommunications providers, where he led revenue-generating teams and built go-to-market expertise.
His international background adds a commercial dimension to the startup at a time when it is seeking to grow beyond South Africa's borders and compete in a global AI infrastructure market currently dominated by large cloud providers and technology giants such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.
